Error 209 "PatchManifestError_VersionFail" - Error Code - The Elder Scrolls Online
This error occurs when The Elder Scrolls Online game client does not update or patch correctly. It can most often be resolved by closing and restarting the ESO Launcher.
To troubleshoot this error, you should follow the troubleshooting steps below:
Delete Patcher Program Data Files
- Navigate to the patch's install folder.
- Default Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)ZenimaxOnline\Launcher
- Default Steam: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\
- Default Epic: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\TheElderScrollsOnline
- Default Mac OSX: Applications\ZenimaxOnline\Launcher
- Locate and delete the "ProgramData" Folder.
- Restart the launcher.
- The launcher should now display "Creating Download."
- Once the process reaches 21-30% the launcher will change to say "Downloading Game Files."
- Run the game.
Temporarily Disable Security Software
- Open your firewall or anti-virus software and temporarily disable it.
- Check the log of blocked files and create an exception / rule for the launcher and client to declare the game as trusted application.
- Close the ESO launcher, restart it, and try again.

Once complete, be sure to turn your software back on!
Run the Game as an Administrator
- Close the ESO Launcher.
- Right click on the launcher icon and select Run as administrator.
- Alternatively, you can select Properties, then Compatibility, then Run as administrator, and then finally click Apply, then OK to confirm.
- Re-open the ESO Launcher and try again.
Repair the Game Client
- Open the ESO Launcher.
- Click Game Options.
- Click Repair.
- Wait for the process to finish.
- Restart the computer.
- Open the ESO Launcher and try again.

Disable any VPN services
Delete Version Files & Repair
- Locate the The Elder Scrolls Online install directory.
- Default Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online
- Default Steam: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\
- Default Epic: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\TheElderScrollsOnline
- Default Mac OSX: Applications -> ZeniMax Online -> The Elder Scrolls Online
- Locate the Depot folder and delete the "depot.version" file.
- Locate the Game folder and delete the "game_player.version" file.
- Locate the VO_EN folder (VO_FR for French, VO_DE for German) and delete the "vo_en.version" file (vo_fr.version for French or vo_de.version for German).
- Restart the computer.
- Open the ESO launcher.
- Under the Game Options menu, click Repair.
If the game disappeared and does not show up as installed before you could click repair, select install, then once the data starts downloading, open the Game Option menu, click Cancel, then Repair.
Note: In order for the above steps to fully work, you should restart your computer.
The final option is to uninstall the game client and then reinstall it completely.
