What do I do if I get an error stating "Login Error: Login Timeout" when logging into The Elder Scrolls Online?

If you are seeing this error, we are likely undergoing maintenance, check the service alerts at this link. If you're playing on Xbox or PlayStation, you should also check for service alerts for your platform: 

If ESO is undergoing maintenance, wait for it to be complete. If the game is not under maintenance, follow these links for additional troubleshooting steps:

PC Only: 
  • If the above steps do not resolve the issue, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game and delete the file game_player.version. Once that is done, open the launcher and try again. 
  • Open the launcher and check whether it states "Update" on the bottom right corner.
    • If it states "Update" on the launcher, click "Update"
    • If it does not, close your launcher and navigate to the shortcut for the Game Launcher on your desktop and select "Open File Location"
      • In this location, locate the folder "ProgramData' and rename it to "ProgramDatabackup"
        • Re-open your launcher and click "Update" if prompted.
        • If it does not display "Update,"  the issue should be resolved.
